英語面接で、これまでの仕事や成果についてよく聞かれる質問の一つが、

• 〇 Tell me about a successful project.
• 〇 Can you tell me about a project you successfully completed?
• 〇 Tell me about a project you are proud of.
• 〇 Describe a successful project you worked on.

「成功したプロジェクトについて教えてください」

という質問です。

この質問を聞かれると、

「どのくらい大きなプロジェクトを選べばいい？」

「チームで取り組んだプロジェクトでもいい？」

「プロジェクト全体をどこまで説明すればいい？」

「自分の役割と成果をどう伝えればいい？」

と迷う方も多いと思います。

しかし、面接官が知りたいのは、プロジェクトそのものの説明だけではありません。

重要なのは、

「そのプロジェクトの中で、あなたがどのような役割を持ち、何を考え、何をして、成功にどう貢献したのか」

です。

今回は、英語面接で Tell me about a successful project. と聞かれたときの回答の作り方と、まずは短く伝える英語回答例をご紹介します。

面接官が見ているポイント

この質問では、面接官は主に次の点を確認しています。

• ✅ どのようなプロジェクトに取り組んできたか
• ✅ その中でどのような役割を担ったか
• ✅ 課題に対してどのように行動したか
• ✅ 周囲とどのように協力したか
• ✅ 自分自身がどのように成功へ貢献したか

つまり、面接官が聞きたいのは、

“Was the project successful?”

だけではありません。

より重要なのは、

“What did YOU do to make the project successful?”

です。

面接官が評価する英語の回答の作り方【Project Goal → Role → Action → Result → Learning】

この質問でおすすめなのが、

Project Goal → Role → Action → Result → Learning

です。

例えば、

Project Goal

One successful project I worked on was the launch of a new internal system.

まず、どのようなプロジェクトだったのかを簡潔に伝えます。

Role

I was responsible for coordinating the business and technical teams.

次に、自分の役割を明確にします。

Action

I organized regular meetings, clarified priorities, and followed up on key issues.

自分が具体的に何をしたのかを説明します。

Result

We completed the implementation on schedule with minimal disruption to users.

その結果、何を達成したのかを伝えます。

Learning

It taught me the importance of keeping different stakeholders aligned throughout a project.

最後に、その経験から得た学びを簡潔に伝えます。

この流れなら、

「プロジェクトが成功した」

だけでなく、

「その成功の中で自分がどのような役割を果たしたのか」

まで面接官に伝わります。

まずは短く答える｜約30秒の英語回答例

まずは、伝えたいポイントを30秒程度にまとめた回答例を見てみましょう。

実際の面接では、質問の内容や面接官から求められる具体性によって、30〜60秒程度、Behavioral Questionでは60〜90秒程度話すこともあります。ここでは、回答の基本となるポイントを短くまとめています。

① ERP Implementation Consultant

Answer

One successful project I worked on was an ERP implementation for a large client. I was responsible for coordinating requirements between the client and technical teams. By clarifying priorities and resolving issues early, we completed the implementation on schedule and achieved a smooth transition.

② Medical Device Product Manager

Answer

One successful project was the launch of a new medical device. I coordinated closely with regulatory, sales, and technical teams to keep the project moving. We launched the product on schedule, and the experience taught me how important cross-functional alignment is.

③ Renewable Energy Project Developer

Answer

A successful project I worked on involved developing a new solar energy site. I coordinated with technical teams, external partners, and local stakeholders. We resolved several issues during development and kept the project on track through an important approval stage.

④ Customer Experience Manager

Answer

One successful project I led was improving our customer onboarding process. I worked with sales, operations, and support teams to identify the main problems and redesign the process. As a result, onboarding became faster and customer feedback improved.

⑤ Corporate Finance Manager

Answer

One successful project I worked on was improving our annual planning process. I coordinated with different business units and introduced a more consistent forecasting approach. This improved the quality of our financial information and helped management make better planning decisions.

面接官が高く評価するポイント

① Projectの説明を長くしすぎない

この質問では、プロジェクトの背景を詳しく説明したくなります。

しかし、

The project started in 2023, and there were about 20 people involved from five departments…

と背景説明が続くと、自分のContributionが見えにくくなります。

まずは、

One successful project I worked on was the launch of a new internal system.

くらいで十分です。

面接官が知りたいのは、その後のRoleとActionです。

② 「We」だけでなく「I」を入れる

プロジェクトはチームで行うことが多いため、

We worked together.

We solved the problem.

We successfully completed the project.

となりがちです。

もちろんTeamworkは重要です。

しかし、面接官は、

What did YOU do?

も知りたいのです。

I was responsible for…

I suggested…

I coordinated…

I identified…

I worked with…

などを使い、自分のContributionを明確にしましょう。

③ 成功した「理由」を伝える

The project was successful.

だけでは、何が成功につながったのか分かりません。

例えば、

I clarified priorities early and kept the key stakeholders aligned throughout the project.

と伝えれば、自分がどのように成功へ貢献したのかが見えてきます。

面接官に、

「この人は別のプロジェクトでも同じように成果を出せそうだ」

と思ってもらえる内容を意識しましょう。

④ Result＋Learningまで考える

Resultは、

We completed the project on schedule.

Customer satisfaction improved.

We reduced processing time.

など、できるだけ具体的にします。

さらに、

The experience taught me the importance of early stakeholder alignment.

とLearningまで伝えると、単なる成功体験ではなく、次の仕事でも活かせる経験として伝わります。

回答チェックリスト

NG① プロジェクトの説明だけで終わる

I worked on a large system implementation project involving several departments and external vendors.

どんなプロジェクトだったかは分かりますが、あなたが何をしたのか分かりません。

例えば、

I was responsible for coordinating requirements between the business teams and external vendors.

とRoleを加えましょう。

NG② 「We」だけで終わる

We worked hard, solved several problems, and successfully completed the project.

チームの成果は伝わりますが、本人のContributionが見えません。

I identified the main communication gaps and introduced weekly progress meetings.

など、自分のActionを具体的にします。

NG③ 「成功しました」で終わる

The project was completed successfully.

何をもって成功とするのかが分かりません。

We completed the project two weeks ahead of schedule and reduced implementation issues.

など、Resultを具体的に伝えましょう。

がより重要になります。

と聞かれると、プロジェクトの内容を一生懸命説明してしまう方がいます。

しかし、面接官として私が特に聞きたいのは、

「そのプロジェクトの中で、あなたは何をしたのですか？」

という部分です。

例えば、

One successful project I worked on was the implementation of a new system.

まずProjectを簡潔に説明する。

次に、

I was responsible for coordinating the business and technical teams.

とRoleを明確にする。

そして、

I clarified priorities and followed up on key issues.

とActionを伝える。

最後に、

We completed the implementation on schedule with minimal disruption.

とResultにつなげる。

さらに余裕があれば、

It taught me the importance of keeping stakeholders aligned throughout a project.

とLearningを加えます。

難しい英語を使う必要はありません。

このようなシンプルな表現で十分に強いアピールになります。

そして、この質問はBehavioral Questionなので、最初からすべてを30秒に詰め込む必要もありません。

まずは30秒程度で、

Project Goal → Role → Action → Result

の核を伝える。

面接官が、

What was the biggest challenge?

How did you handle that?

What was your specific contribution?

What would you do differently?

と深掘りしてきたら、そこで詳しく説明します。

本番に向けては、同じエピソードを30秒版と60〜90秒版の両方で話せるようにしておくと対応しやすくなります。

まとめ

Tell me about a successful project. で大切なのは、成功したプロジェクトを紹介することだけではありません。

面接官が知りたいのは、

「そのプロジェクトの中で、あなた自身がどのような役割を持ち、何をして、成功にどう貢献したのか」

です。

回答するときは、

Project Goal → Role → Action → Result → Learning

を意識してみましょう。

特に重要なのは、

Projectの説明は短く、RoleとActionを具体的にすること。

そして、まずは30秒程度で要点を伝え、必要に応じて60〜90秒の詳しいエピソードへ広げる。

そうすることで、長く話しすぎず、面接官に**「この人がプロジェクトを成功させるために、どのように動く人なのか」**が伝わる回答になります。
