英語面接で、これまでの成果についてよく聞かれる質問の一つが、

• 〇 What is your biggest achievement?
• 〇 What is your greatest achievement?
• 〇 What is your biggest professional achievement?
• 〇 What would you consider your greatest accomplishment?

「これまでで一番大きな成果は何ですか？」

という質問です。

この質問を聞かれると、

「一番大きな成果と言えるほどのものがない」

「売上や数字で説明できる成果でないとダメ？」

「チームで達成したことを話してもいい？」

「どこまで詳しく説明すればいい？」

と迷う方も多いと思います。

しかし、面接官が見ているのは、成果の大きさだけではありません。

重要なのは、

「どのような課題に対して、自分が何を考え、何をして、どのような結果を生み出したのか」

です。

今回は、英語面接で What is your biggest achievement? と聞かれたときの回答の作り方と、短く伝える英語回答例をご紹介します。

面接官が見ているポイント

この質問では、面接官は主に次の点を確認しています。

• ✅ どのような成果を重要だと考えているか
• ✅ 難しい課題や目標にどう取り組んだか
• ✅ 自分自身がどのような役割を果たしたか
• ✅ 具体的な行動を説明できるか
• ✅ どのようなResult・Impactを生み出したか
• ✅ その経験が応募ポジションでも活かせるか

 

つまり、単に、

I increased sales by 20%.

という結果だけを知りたいわけではありません。

面接官が知りたいのは、

「どうやって、その成果を生み出したのか？」

です。

面接官が評価する英語の回答の作り方【Challenge → Action → Result → Impact】

この質問でおすすめなのが、

Challenge → Action → Result → Impact

です。

STEP	面接官が知りたいこと（英語）	この質問で話す内容
Challenge	What was the challenge or goal?	どのような課題・目標だったか
Action	What did you do?	自分が考え、実行したこと
Result	What did you achieve?	具体的に達成した結果
Impact	Why did it matter?	会社・チーム・顧客への価値

例えば、

Challenge

One of my biggest achievements was improving a process that was causing frequent delays.

まず、どのような課題に取り組んだのかを簡潔に説明します。

Action

I reviewed the workflow, identified the main bottlenecks, and worked with the team to redesign the process.

次に、自分が具体的に何をしたのかを伝えます。

Result

As a result, we reduced processing time by about 30%.

可能であれば、数字や具体的な変化を入れます。

Impact

It also helped the team respond to customers more quickly and consistently.

最後に、その成果がどのような価値につながったのかを伝えます。

この流れなら、

「何を達成したか」だけでなく、「どう成果を生み出したか」

まで面接官に伝わります。

まずは短く答える｜約30秒の英語回答例

まずは、伝えたいポイントを30秒程度にまとめた回答例を見てみましょう。

実際の面接では、質問の内容や面接官から求められる具体性によって、30〜60秒程度、Behavioral Questionでは60〜90秒程度話すこともあります。ここでは、回答の基本となるポイントを短くまとめています。

① Customer Success Manager

Answer

One of my biggest achievements was improving customer retention for a key group of accounts. I reviewed the main reasons customers were leaving and introduced a more proactive follow-up process. As a result, retention improved significantly and we built stronger relationships with several major customers.

② Manufacturing Process Engineer

Answer

My biggest achievement was improving a production process that was causing frequent delays. I worked with production and quality teams to identify the main causes and redesign the workflow. As a result, we reduced downtime and improved overall production efficiency.

③ Digital Marketing Manager

Answer

One of my biggest achievements was leading a digital campaign for a new product launch. I coordinated the content, media, and analytics teams and adjusted the strategy based on performance data. The campaign exceeded our lead target and generated strong customer engagement.

④ Financial Controller

Answer

My biggest achievement was improving our monthly reporting process. I standardized several reporting steps and worked with different departments to improve data accuracy. As a result, we shortened the reporting cycle and gave management faster access to reliable financial information.

⑤ Clinical Operations Specialist

Answer

One of my biggest achievements was helping a clinical study recover from significant delays. I coordinated closely with study sites and internal teams to resolve the main issues and improve follow-up. We brought the project back on track and met an important study milestone.

面接官が高く評価するポイント

① 「大きそうな成果」より「自分が説明できる成果」を選ぶ

Biggest achievementと聞かれると、

「会社史上最大の売上」

「大規模なプロジェクト」

のような派手な成果を考えがちです。

しかし、重要なのは規模だけではありません。

面接官が知りたいのは、

What did YOU do?

です。

自分の役割・判断・行動を具体的に説明できる成果を選びましょう。

② Actionをしっかり伝える

例えば、

Our team increased sales by 30%.

だけでは、あなた自身が何をしたのか分かりません。

I analyzed customer data and changed our account strategy.

のように、自分のActionを入れることが重要です。

③ Resultはできるだけ具体的にする

数字で説明できる場合は、

We reduced costs by 15%.

Sales increased by 20%.

We completed the project two weeks ahead of schedule.

など、具体的に伝えると分かりやすくなります。

ただし、すべての成果を数字で表す必要はありません。

We successfully launched the product on schedule.

We improved collaboration between the two teams.

The project was brought back on track.

でも十分に強いアピールになります。

④ Resultの先にあるImpactまで考える

例えば、

We reduced processing time by 30%.

で終わることもできます。

しかし、

This allowed the team to respond to customers more quickly.

まで伝えると、その成果の意味がより明確になります。

Result＝何が変わったか

Impact＝その変化にどんな価値があったか

と考えると整理しやすくなります。

回答チェックリスト

• ✅ 最初にAchievementが明確になっている
• ✅ Challengeの説明が長すぎない
• ✅ 自分自身のActionが入っている
• ✅ “We”だけでなく“I”の役割も説明している
• ✅ Resultが具体的になっている
• ✅ 可能であれば数字や変化を入れている
• ✅ Resultの先にあるImpactも考えている
• ✅ 深掘りされても詳しく説明できる経験を選んでいる

 

NG回答

NG① 結果だけを話す

My biggest achievement was increasing sales by 25%.

成果は分かりますが、どう達成したのかが分かりません。

例えば、

I reviewed our customer strategy and focused the team on several high-potential accounts. As a result, we increased sales by 25%.

とActionを加えましょう。

NG② 背景説明が長すぎる

This happened about five years ago when I was working in another department. At that time, our organization was going through many changes…

Achievementの質問なのに、なかなか成果にたどり着かない回答は避けましょう。

Challengeは短くして、ActionとResultを中心に話すことがポイントです。

NG③ チームの成果だけになっている

Our team successfully completed a major project.

これだけでは、あなたのContributionが分かりません。

I was responsible for coordinating the key stakeholders and keeping the project on schedule.

など、自分が担った役割を明確にしましょう。

ただし、

Biggest achievement

では、成果の大きさ・Impact・仕事上の結果に焦点を置きやすいのに対し、

Most proud of

では、

「なぜ自分にとってその成果が重要なのか」

というPersonal Meaningも伝えやすくなります。

しかし、面接官として私が知りたいのは、数字だけではありません。

例えば、

まずAchievementを伝える。

そして、

と、自分のActionを説明する。

さらに、

とResultを伝え、

とImpactにつなげる。

この流れなら、面接官は、

「この人は問題を見つけ、考え、周囲と動き、結果を出せる人なんだな」

と理解できます。

難しい英語を使う必要はありません。

• 〇 I decided to…
• 〇 I worked with…
• 〇 As a result…

このようなシンプルな英語で十分に強いアピールになります。

また、本番では最初から2〜3分話す必要はありません。

まずは30秒前後でChallenge → Action → Result → Impactの要点を伝える。

面接官が興味を持てば、

How did you do that?

What was the biggest challenge?

What was your specific role?

と深掘りしてきます。

そのときに、具体的なエピソードをさらに説明できればよいのです。

まとめ

What is your biggest achievement? で大切なのは、成果の大きさだけではありません。

面接官が知りたいのは、

「どのような課題に対して、あなた自身が何をし、どのような結果と価値を生み出したのか」

です。

回答するときは、

Challenge → Action → Result → Impact

を意識してみましょう。

そして、

Challengeは短く、ActionとResultを具体的に。

これがポイントです。

まずは30秒前後で要点を伝え、必要に応じて深掘りに答える。

そうすることで、長く話しすぎず、それでも**「自分がどのように成果を生み出す人なのか」**が面接官に伝わる回答になります。
