英語面接で、自分の強みについて聞かれる代表的な質問の一つが、

• 〇 What is your greatest strength?
• 〇 What would you say is your biggest strength?
• 〇 What is your strongest professional skill?

 

「あなたの最大の強みは何ですか？」

という質問です。

シンプルな質問ですが、

「Communication skillsでいい？」

「強みがいくつもある場合はどうする？」

「性格について答えるのか、仕事のSkillについて答えるのか？」

「What are your strengths? と何が違う？」

と迷う方も多いと思います。

この質問で大切なのは、たくさんの強みを並べることではありません。

面接官が知りたいのは、

「あなたの強みの中で、この仕事で最も価値を発揮できるものは何か。そして、それを実際の仕事でどう発揮してきたのか」

です。

今回は、英語面接で What is your biggest strength? と聞かれたときの回答の作り方と、20〜30秒程度で答えられる英語例をご紹介します。

面接官が見ているポイント

この質問では、面接官は主に次の点を確認しています。

だけではなく、

“What is the strongest capability you can bring to this role?”

まで考えることがポイントです。

この質問でおすすめなのが、

Strength → Evidence → Impact → Relevance

です。

例えば、

まず、一番伝えたい強みを一つに絞ります。

Evidence

In my current role, I often explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.

次に、その強みが実際の仕事でどう使われているかを示します。

Impact

That helps teams understand the key issues and make decisions more quickly.

その強みがどのようなImpactを生んでいるかを伝えます。

Relevance

I believe that would be particularly valuable in this role.

最後に、応募ポジションとの関連性につなげます。

この、

Strength → Evidence → Impact → Relevance

の流れにすると、

「私の強みは〇〇です」

という自己評価だけではなく、仕事で実際に価値を生み出している強みとして伝えられます。

まずは短く答える｜約30秒の英語回答例

まずは、伝えたいポイントを30秒程度にまとめた回答例を見てみましょう。

実際の面接では、質問の内容や面接官から求められる具体性によって、30〜60秒程度、Behavioral Questionでは60〜90秒程度話すこともあります。ここでは、回答の基本となるポイントを短くまとめています。

① Business Intelligence Analyst

Answer

My biggest strength is turning complex data into clear business insights. In my current role, I analyze performance data and explain the key findings to different teams. That helps them make faster, better-informed decisions, and I believe this strength would be valuable in this role.

② Medical Science Liaison

Answer

My biggest strength is communicating complex scientific information clearly. I regularly discuss clinical data with healthcare professionals and internal teams. That helps create productive scientific discussions, and I believe this strength would be valuable when working with different stakeholders in this role.

③ Logistics Operations Specialist

Answer

My biggest strength is staying organized when priorities change quickly. I coordinate shipments, schedules, and different stakeholders every day. This helps me identify issues early and keep operations moving, which I believe would be useful in this position.

④ Hardware Design Engineer

Answer

My biggest strength is practical problem-solving. When technical issues arise, I analyze the cause and work closely with testing and manufacturing teams to find workable solutions. This has helped improve product reliability and reduce recurring problems.

面接官が高く評価するポイント

① 強みを一つに絞る

What is your biggest strength?

と聞かれているので、

My strengths are communication, leadership, flexibility, teamwork, and problem-solving.

と複数並べる必要はありません。

むしろ、

My biggest strength is…

と一つに絞った方が、メッセージが明確になります。

② Job Descriptionから逆算する

「自分が一番得意なこと」だけで選ぶのではなく、

「このポジションで特に価値のある自分の強みは何か？」

という視点も大切です。

例えば、Stakeholder Managementが重要な仕事なら、

My biggest strength is building alignment across different stakeholders.

など、Job Descriptionとの関連性を考えます。

ただし、応募先に合わせるために、自分にない強みを作る必要はありません。

自分が本当に持っている強み × 応募先が求めている能力

の重なる部分を探しましょう。

③ Evidenceを入れる

My biggest strength is communication.

だけでは抽象的です。

I regularly explain complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.

と一文加えるだけで説得力が大きく変わります。

面接官が知りたいのは、**「なぜそれがあなたの強みだと言えるのか？」**です。

④ Impactまで伝える

さらに、

That helps teams make decisions more quickly.

のようにImpactを加えると、

Strength → Business Value

まで見えてきます。

強みは、持っているだけではなく、仕事でどのような結果につながっているかまで伝えることが重要です。

NG回答

NG① 強みをたくさん並べる

My biggest strengths are communication, leadership, teamwork, flexibility, and problem-solving.

Biggest strength と聞かれているので、一つに絞りましょう。

My biggest strength is bringing people together around a common goal.

など、最も伝えたいものを選びます。

NG② 抽象的すぎる

My biggest strength is that I’m hardworking.

悪い回答ではありませんが、具体性がありません。

例えば、

My biggest strength is staying focused and organized when managing several priorities.

とすると、仕事でのBehaviorが見えてきます。

NG③ Strengthだけで終わる

My biggest strength is problem-solving.

これだけでは、なぜそれが最大の強みなのか分かりません。

When problems arise, I analyze the cause, involve the right people, and focus on practical solutions.

のようにEvidenceを加えましょう。

ただし、

What are your strengths?

なら、関連する強みを複数含めることもできます。

一方、

What is your biggest strength?

では、

「この仕事に最も活かせる自分の強みを一つ選ぶ」

と考えると答えやすくなります。

しかし、面接官として私が知りたいのは、

「その強みが、このポジションでどのように役立つのか？」

です。

例えば、

だけでも結論は伝わります。

そこに、

というEvidenceを加え、

That helps teams make decisions more quickly.

とImpactを伝える。

最後に、

I believe that would be valuable in this role.

と応募ポジションにつなげます。

難しい英語を使う必要はありません。

このようなシンプルな表現で十分に強いアピールになります。

そして、強みを考えるときには、

「自分は何が得意だと思うか？」

だけではなく、

「これまで周囲から何を頼まれてきたか？」

「どのような場面で結果を出してきたか？」

「このポジションでは、どの強みが特に役立つか？」

も考えてみてください。

そこから、本当に自分らしいStrengthが見つかることがあります。

Strength → Evidence → Impact → Relevance

で、

最大の強み → その根拠 → 生み出した結果 → この仕事でどう活かすか

を整理してみましょう。

まとめ

What is your biggest strength? で大切なのは、強みをたくさん並べることではありません。

面接官が知りたいのは、

「あなたの最も大きな強みは何か。それを実際にどう発揮し、どのような価値を生み出してきたのか」

です。

回答するときは、

Strength → Evidence → Impact → Relevance

を意識してみましょう。

「I’m good at…」で終わらず、「This is how I use it, and this is why it matters.」まで伝える。
