英語面接の最初によく聞かれる質問の一つが、

「自己紹介をしてください」

という質問です。

シンプルな質問ですが、

「名前から話せばいい？」

「プライベートなことも話す？」

「職歴をどこまで説明すればいい？」

「Tell me about yourself. と同じ答えでいい？」

と迷う方も多いと思います。

英語面接での自己紹介は、日常会話の自己紹介とは少し違います。

面接官が知りたいのは、趣味や出身地よりも、

現在どのような仕事をしていて、どのような強み・専門性を持ち、それが今回のポジションにどうつながっているのか。

つまり、短い自己紹介から、あなたの

• 〇 Professional Identity（仕事上の自分）
• 〇 Strength（強み）
• 〇 Relevance（応募ポジションとの関連性）

 

を確認しています。

今回は、英語面接で Could you introduce yourself? と聞かれたときの回答の作り方と、20〜30秒程度で答えられるシンプルな英語例をご紹介します。

面接官が見ているポイント

この質問では、面接官は主に次の点を確認しています。

自己紹介だからといって、

My name is Taro. I’m from Tokyo. I’m married and I like traveling and watching movies.

とプライベートな情報を中心にする必要はありません。

おすすめは、

Present → Strength → Connection

の3ステップです。

の流れにすると、単なるプロフィール紹介ではなく、**「どのようなプロフェッショナルで、なぜ今回ここにいるのか」**が短時間で伝わります。

まずは短く答える｜約30秒の英語回答例

まずは、伝えたいポイントを30秒程度にまとめた回答例を見てみましょう。

実際の面接では、質問の内容や面接官から求められる具体性によって、30〜60秒程度、Behavioral Questionでは60〜90秒程度話すこともあります。ここでは、回答の基本となるポイントを短くまとめています。

① Revenue Management Analyst

Answer

I currently work as a Revenue Management Analyst, mainly using pricing and demand data to support commercial decisions. My strength is turning complex data into clear business recommendations. I’m particularly interested in this opportunity because it would allow me to apply that experience on a broader scale.

Answer

面接官が高く評価するポイント

① 最初の一文で「何をしている人か」が分かる

I work in…

などから始めると、面接官がその後の話を理解しやすくなります。

自己紹介だからといって、必ずしも名前・年齢・出身地から始める必要はありません。

② Strengthが具体的

I’m hardworking and motivated.

のような一般的な特徴より、

My strength is turning complex data into clear recommendations.

のように、仕事で実際に使っている強みを伝える方が効果的です。

③ Connectionがある

自己紹介を現在の仕事内容だけで終わらせず、

That experience connects strongly with this role.

That’s what interested me in this opportunity.

と今回の応募につなげることで、面接全体への良い導入になります。

④ 短く、次の質問につながる

自己紹介で自分のすべてを説明する必要はありません。

20〜30秒程度で全体像を示し、面接官が、

Could you tell me more about that?

と深掘りできる余白を残しておくことも大切です。

NG① プライベートな自己紹介になる

My name is Ken. I’m 35 years old. I’m from Osaka. I like golf, traveling, and cooking.

日常会話では自然ですが、面接官が最初に知りたいProfessional Backgroundがありません。

例えば、

I currently work in corporate finance, mainly supporting financial planning and business performance analysis.

と、仕事上の自分から始める方が効果的です。

NG② Resumeを全部説明する

I graduated in 2010, joined Company A, moved to Company B in 2015, and then…

これは Walk me through your resume. に近い回答です。

Could you introduce yourself? では、職歴をすべて説明せず、現在の自分と強みを中心にまとめましょう。

NG③ 抽象的な自己PRだけになる

I’m hardworking, positive, flexible, and a good team player.

良い特徴ですが、何をしている人なのか分かりません。

My strength is coordinating different teams and keeping complex projects moving forward.

のように、仕事での具体的な強みに変えましょう。

特に、

Could you introduce yourself?

と

Tell me about yourself.

は非常によく似ています。

実際の面接では、ほぼ同じ意味で使われることもあります。

ただし、Could you introduce yourself? と聞かれた場合は、最初の自己紹介として、より短くシンプルに、

「現在の自分＋強み＋応募との接点」

を伝えると答えやすいでしょう。

一方、Tell me about yourself. では、必要に応じて過去のキャリアや今後の方向性まで少し広げることができます。

Could you introduce yourself? と聞かれると、

「自己紹介だから、名前から話さなければ。」

と思う方もいます。

もちろん、

My name is…

から始めても間違いではありません。

ただ、面接官はすでにあなたの名前を知っていることがほとんどです。

私が面接官として特に知りたいのは、

「この候補者は、仕事上どのような人なのか？」

ということです。

例えば、

I currently work in supply chain planning.

そして、

My strength is managing changing priorities while keeping operations on track.

最後に、

That experience connects closely with this opportunity.

これだけでも十分に自己紹介になります。

難しい英語を使う必要はありません。

• 〇 I currently work as…
• 〇 I mainly focus on…
• 〇 My strength is…
• 〇 I have strong experience in…
• 〇 That experience connects closely with…

このようなシンプルな表現で十分に強いアピールになります。

そして、自己紹介では全部を話そうとしないことも大切です。

面接は、その後にたくさんの質問が続きます。

最初の20〜30秒では、

Present → Strength → Connection

で、

今何をしているのか → 何が得意なのか → なぜ今回の応募につながるのか

を伝えてください。

自己紹介を「自分について説明する時間」ではなく、**「面接官に、自分のどこをもっと聞いてほしいかを示す時間」**と考えると、伝え方が大きく変わります。

まとめ

Could you introduce yourself? で面接官が知りたいのは、名前や趣味だけではありません。

重要なのは、

現在どのような仕事をしているのか → どのような強み・専門性があるのか → それが今回のポジションにどうつながるのか

という流れです。

回答するときは、

Present → Strength → Connection

を意識してみましょう。
